Welcome to Shopfront in the Year of the Dragon

A dragon is a mythical monster like a giant reptile. In European tradition the dragon is typically fire-breathing and tends to symbolize chaos.In the Eastern tradition the dragon is a most noble sign, associated with water and the heavens and a symbol of great luck.  So it is with this twinned dragon we greet 2012! Kung Hei Fat Choy one and all!

Margot Politis & Accessible Arts at Shopfront!

Based on the success of the Bodylines Ensemble since 2009, the support of parents and the ongoing support of Margot Politis and Sarah Emery, Shopfront has received funding from Arts NSW for Margot to join Shopfront’s core staff. Margot will be at Shopfront Tuesdays and Fridays, making creative connections with our wider community, schools and families to enable more young people with support needs to get involved in the creative arts and in Shopfront’s projects throughout the year. For 8-12s:
Get moving on Wednesday afternoons in Shake, Rattle & Roll and turn everyday objects into amazing characters on Saturday mornings in Puppetry

For 11-15s: Prepare for Junior Ensemble 2012. Create sharp stage pictures with your body, voice and your imagination on Saturday afternoons in Instructions for a Chorus

For 13+: Get techy and creative with all things design on Friday afternoons in Production All Areas

Luke Kerridge begins Director training at VCA

Shopfront sends a HUGE congratulations to Shopfront’s wonderful workshop director from the past two Junior Ensemble’s, Luke Kerridge. Luke was accepted into the Director’s training at The Victorian College of the Arts this year and will undertake an intensive program of study in Melbourne. We will miss him, his keen skills in making theatre with young people and hope to work with Luke again in 2013.

YAK – All About Me

During January emerging writers Tim Spencer and Zoe Norton-Lodge hosted the YAK Summer residency. Hot on the heels of their Horses Mouth Festival at the Old Fitz, Tim and Zoe ran a two week creative development with young artists/writers Sophie Mathisen, Charles Purcell, Jess Flood, Emily Morrison, Aslam Abdus-Samad and Rachel Weiner to get to the depths of live autobiography.

RAW12| Begins February 8

Artists aged 15-25 are invited to Write, Perform, Direct, Design, and Produce their  own season of  short theatrical works

Rehearsing and devising Wednesday nights at Shopfront from 5:30-8:30pm

Work with season director  Michael Pigott and co-artistic director Caitlin Newton-Broad  and test, develop and push the envelope of your own artistic practice, create new work and showcase its development during a 3 day public performance. It’s hands on, it’s fun, it’s a tour de force that has been described by many as life changing..

Go On.. Get into RAW!!

Late Night Shopping |February 23

Cabaret – 8pm

15+ event for all young people who would like to make a short live work in a very short time, then share it with friends in a cabaret night. Keep your diary free on Thursday 23rd of February to work with, MC deluxe, Tom Christophersen and guests and then invite your friends to vogue and sing along.
