As the year draws to a close Shopfront brings together months of creative development in the residential and outreach programs with our final shows and events of the year. There is a big news announcement and a little taste of what’s to come in 2012…
It is with sadness that we announce Nerida Woods’ resignation from her role as General Manager at Shopfront. For seven and a half years Nerida has guided Shopfront through significant growth to create one of the most stable, vibrant and holistic youth arts companies in Australia. Shopfront is very lucky to have had such a talented, rigorous and passionate GM contribute to its path and progress as a company. Her partnership with TJ Eckleberg was one of legend; a mutually inspired partnership that really brought new opportunities to the Shopfront co-op, restoring the building, creating vibrant strands to the program and more than doubling annual revenue and partnership investment in the company.
The contribution Nerida made to so many young people’s lives in terms of growth, confidence and creativity within the company is testament to the hard work and solid line she took, holding steadfast to the core mission at Shopfront and keeping everyone focused on the main game. Nerida is making time to take stock before embarking on new creative challenges, following her passion and ability as an advocate, writer and producer in community arts and theatre. The whole staff and community of young people and artists at Shopfront will miss her insight and guidance keenly and wish her all the best. Nerida will support Shopfront during the transition to a new General Manager in the New Year and we will announce an opportunity to come together to bid her farewell.

On the October long weekend, Bodylines was invited to lead a Master Class at The Loft Youth Centre as part of the Crack Theatre Festival happenings. Led by Margot Politis and assisted by Shopfronters Chloe Lozelle and Angellica Clayton-Spray, we had a great time meeting and dancing with other artists from around Australia. We also had the great opportunity of participating in the workshop led by renowned integrated dance company Restless Dance Theatre, from Adelaide, and later sat on a panel with Restless to discuss accessibility in theatre to an audience of fresh and vibrant emerging artists. Here’s what Chloe had to say about her experience: “One thing I learnt at the workshop was showing initiative and helping others who were having trouble. This gave me an opportunity to show myself to other people and teach them new things. I would definitely love to do this again, because I had such a great time, made new friends and have made new opportunities for myself in the future”. The experience has certainly put Shopfront’s Bodylines Movement Ensemble on the map when it comes to integrated theatre that is making waves in New South Wales.
Thank you to all who completed the online survey to assist us in the future development of Shopfront’s annual workshop program. The response has been fantastic and we are considering all your feedback as we prepare to roll out the exciting opportunities that will be on offer in 2012. Check it out at Shopfront’s Fair Day on Sunday December 11 from 12-3pm.
If you missed out on completing the online survey before the competition closing date (November 11) and want to give us feedback on Shopfront’s residential program we invite you to fill out the super-quick survey Here

Presented by Shopfront and The St George Domestic Violence Committee. Young people from Georges River College (Hurstville Boys), Kogarah Intensive English Centre and MTC Work Solutions (Youth Connections) have been creating songs, videos, performances and artworks that will be showcased in this event. These participants were invited to take their own and others’ experiences and transform it into performance and art, offering new ways of looking at this issue with fresh eyes in finding new solutions. Last year’s event was applauded for its humour and energy in dealing with a subject most of us prefer to avoid.

Turn up sharp at 12noon for a feast of short works by our resident young artists; from Bodylines’s liquid moves to the orchestrated chaos of Scott Witt’s stage combat intensive. Take a pew at the outdoor Banquet table for a few toasts to the Old Year, some collective nosh and improper interruptions from the Cardboard People Parade. Follow a trail into the Universal Zoo, assisted by ghoulish guides. Cruise Shopfront, see the Raw ‘11 Films at your own pace, attend a Shopfront Slideshow Snapshot, do some Christmas shopping for handmade gifts, have your fortunes read, bob for apples, or just relax, meet friends and neighbours. Inspired by the work you saw in ArtsLab this year? Shopfront is offering a 6 month residency for an individual or small collective with a new work proposal. Applications close 7 Dec. More details Here
There is one story which no one else can tell. One story that you’re the best at telling.
All About Me is a residency geared at creating new work using each artist’s own experiences as a unique starting point. Take the next step in your creative practice, and start the year with a bold statement of who you are and where you come from.
The development of this new work will coincide with a series of workshops which explore a wide range of artistic practices in telling our own stories lead by the team from The Horses’ Mouth Festival
This YAK residency will offer plenty of opportunities to start new creative partnerships, get to know the Sydney theatre & arts scenes during Festival season and enjoy the peak of Summer together.
Curators Zoe Norton Lodge and Tim Spencer will guide the artists through the development process which will culminate in a showing of their new work.
To be a part of this great opportunity and the first project of 2012, please submit a one page application which briefly describes your preliminary thoughts about the work you would like to create as well as your previous artistic experiences. Submit your artistic statements by the 2nd of December to yak.events@gmail.com . Small groups and individual artists under 26 years welcome to apply.
YAK is a DIY initiative run by emerging artists based at Shopfront.
called plastic. They look really good and they fit my face well. After awhile of being worn they start to hurt my head right above my ears, the temple arms that rest on the side of your head are designed poorly that cause pain after extended use. Don’t get me wrong I Really like them, but definitely overpriced. Made in America means steeper price but come on their PLASTIC.
this was a really quality post. in theory i’d like to write like this too. taking time and real effort to make a good article.http://www.kitsucesso.com
thanks for share this great thread.http://www.divulgaemail.com
The best part the watch came already set.. date, time, month. The watch itself is absolutely beauitful. It looks exactly like the picture. I was a little skeptical that it would be very light weight and cheap but it actually have a good solid weight. It can easily go from a very casual to formal look. I order it from Jomashop, so i can only speak about the service and watch i got from them.
i like your information. i am always looking for this type of interesting and good information.http://www.paletesplasticos.com
